  EXPERT ADVICE

Subject: Mechanical Failure

Q. What should I do if my spa stops working during times of cold weather or during the wintertime?

A. In cold weather areas, such as Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley, a spa that is disconnected from its power source or incurs a mechanical failure is subject to freezing. While it may take several days for the water inside the spa vessel to freeze, it may only be a matter of hours before the water inside the equipment and plumbing freezes. It is your responsibility to prevent this from happening. In order to do this, you must maintain the air temperature inside the spa cabinet above freezing with an alternative source of heat. When providing this alternative source of heat, caution must be exercised in order to prevent equipment and plumbing components within the cabinet from burning or melting.
